Years prior, a young Crusch Karsten wanders the Lugunica royal castle garden, feeling like an unbloomed bud wishing to become a sturdy tree. Her thoughts are interrupted when a golden-haired boy, Prince Fourier Lugunica, crashes into a flowerbed—marking her first memory of the last "Lion King." In the present, Crusch awakens from her cursed slumber with an overwhelming, agonizing thirst. Driven to delirium, she stumbles barefoot into the hallway, smashing decorative vases to desperately drink the water inside. Her butler, Wilhelm, restrains her to prevent further self-harm. Upon seeing her bloody footprints and trampled petals, Crusch is struck by a terrifying reminder of the black mottled curse crests covering her flesh. She spirals into panic, screaming for Ferris. Ferris arrives and embraces Crusch, soothing her hysteria. As she calms, she fully recalls her fond memories of the late Fourier, her deep grief over his death, and her motivations for the Royal Selection. Ferris then unwinds her bandages, revealing that her skin is completely clear and the agonizing curse is gone. However, Ferris dejectedly admits he did not cure her. To save her life, he was forced to seek the cooperation of a "Saintess" from the Church of the Divine Dragon. This revelation horrifies Crusch. The Church represents the covenant with the Dragon that she intends to sever in the Royal Selection, and its values treat Fourier's death as a trivial event. Though she recognizes Ferris's desperation and tries to force herself to express gratitude, her grief and principles take over. Crusch bitterly asks Ferris why he betrayed their oath to Fourier, concluding that she would have rather died.
