About Chosozo

Chosozo provides a free AI translation for the Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World web novel by Tappei Nagatsuki. The site is operated by ehknee. New chapters are translated using AI and posted within hours of the author releasing them.

We originally started AI translations for our own enjoyment. We were unhappy with the quality of MTL translations available and were not available quick enough. We realized later that others felt the same way. We felt that our AI translated chapters were of higher quality and available sooner, so we decided to share. We’ve been working on a separate AI (see Tome of Wisdom) for over a year now. So, Chosozo was created to provide a better reading experience than a Google Doc and as a platform to eventually share something we think you’ll enjoy.

I continue to use ‘we’ throughout this thing but I want to clarify that I’m just one human being with too much time on their hands, apparently. As for why the name Chosozo? Sozo wasn’t available and Chosozo felt fun to say (and reminds me of chorizo).

Translating Methodology

Each chapter is run through our AI translation pipeline and published as fast as possible. We publish first and correct after. We aim for a natural, faithful style that reads cleanly in English while staying close to the original intent of the text (without omissions or additions). Speed will always come first and perfection will not be obtained, but we hope to get close.

The AI models don’t retain context between runs, so each chapter starts fresh, and consistency across naming conventions, locations, and abilities isn’t guaranteed. We apply glossaries and post-processing and try (try being the keyword here) keep things aligned, and straightforward errors like a mistranslated name are easy to fix everywhere at once. More nuanced corrections happen throughout the day as we review. You can always check whether a chapter has been revised, since each one shows when it was last updated.

We’re here to bridge the gap between a chapter dropping in Japanese and a human fan translation being available. When a human translation of a web novel chapter is released, we link out to it and retire ours out of respect for their work. Re:Zero also has an officially published adaptation. When that’s available in your region, we encourage you to support it.
