Subaru, Emilia, Beatrice, and a newly recovered Rem meet Ferris (Felix Argyle) outside the Royal Cemetery. Ferris reveals he has resigned as Crusch Karsten's knight. To save Crusch from the "Dragon's Blood" eroding her body, Ferris made a deal with the "Divine Dragon Church." This compromise severely jeopardized Crusch's standing in the Royal Selection, resulting in his departure. Enraged, Subaru attempts to run and confront Crusch, but Rem stops him. Ferris calls Subaru arrogant and meddlesome, admitting he shares those very traits. Ferris invites the group inside to the tomb of Fourth Prince Fourier Lugunica, a beloved royal who was close to both Ferris and Crusch before his death. Ferris explains that when the royal family died off sequentially, the nobility cared more about the potential breaking of the covenant with the Divine Dragon than the loss of the royals. Disgusted by this, Crusch resolved to win the Royal Selection to make the nation independent of the Dragon. Ironically, Ferris’s decision to save Crusch’s life forced her to rely on the Divine Dragon Church, shattering her political ideals and her personal vow. Ferris initiated his own dismissal to spare Crusch the burden of cutting him off. Emilia offers Ferris temporary shelter, but Ferris declines out of enduring loyalty to Crusch. Though he defensively claims to "hate" all other candidates and their knights, Beatrice expresses deep gratitude for his past assistance with Subaru’s broken gate and promises to aid him in the future. After parting ways, Ferris walks through an unnaturally deserted noble district. He is intercepted by Russell Fellow of the Merchant Union, and an unseen assailant suddenly holds a blade to Ferris's throat. Explaining that Ferris is no longer protected by Crusch’s name, Russell orders an interrogation to force Ferris to reveal everything about "the Sacrament of the Immortal King" passed down within the Argyle family.
