He locates Beatrice and Black Dog, notes that Crusch is moving quickly, and discovers a weak, isolated signal from Ferris in the basement. When Subaru and White Sheep try to navigate the castle, they find themselves trapped in a spatial loop caused by "Lost." Subaru discovers that by closing his eyes and focusing entirely on "Cor Leonis," his Authority overrides the sensory warping of "Lost." However, navigating blindly is too slow to reach Beatrice. Sensing that Crusch has just engaged in battle with "Silence," Subaru decides to prioritize rescuing Ferris, believing the healer's recovery skills are vital for their survival. White Sheep agrees to the plan, stating she must make a choice to look someone in the eye. Meanwhile, in the castle's basement, Ferris is held captive with his arms impaled and pinned to the wall. Although his passive healing magic protects him from a mind-altering "poison" dispersing through the castle, he lacks the physical strength to pull the blades out. His captor is Lycoris of the "Ring Finger," a Beloved Child obsessed with distorted ideas of love. She explains that another Beloved Child named Cornel is responsible for the "Lost" detours. Subaru, visibly affected by Lycoris's mind-altering poison, arrives in the basement to rescue Ferris and confront Lycoris. He boasts of his allies, but before he can act, White Sheep betrays him. She drives a knife deep into Subaru’s flank, causing him to collapse and vomit blood. White Sheep coldly reveals that she made this choice to grant her own wish.
