Heinkel Astrea serves as the knight to Filore, the newly appointed "Saintess" of the Divine Dragon Church and a Royal Selection candidate. When a capital traffic jam stalls a medicine shipment, Heinkel stops the reckless Filore from manually hauling the cargo. Utilizing his medical knowledge—acquired while researching a cure for his sleeping wife, Louanna—Heinkel proposes a practical compromise to move the patients instead, earning the gratitude of the church courier. Heinkel advises Filore to distance her campaign from his notorious reputation, but she stubbornly refuses, promising to restore his honor once she becomes King. Privately, Heinkel grows suspicious of the Divine Dragon Church. Knowing there is only one missing royal princess, he believes someone is orchestrating the Royal Selection using either Filore or Felt. However, his fear of losing Louanna's potential cure keeps him paralyzed from acting on his doubts. Over the next month, Filore's camp faces absolute political gridlock. Sakura Element, the Saintess’s Executive Officer, reveals that over a hundred letters petitioning to visit the detained candidates, Emilia and Felt, and to use Filore's healing Sacrament on victims in Priestella have been placed on hold. Furthermore, the Church previously considered stripping Filore of her title because she used her Sacrament on the now-fugitive Crusch Karsten, who is wanted for assassinating Miklotov McMahon. In desperation, Filore, Heinkel, Sakura, and her bodyguard Tiga Rauleon visit the Royal Castle but are stonewalled. Leaving the castle, they encounter Heinkel’s estranged son, Reinhard, who is under surveillance by unfamiliar knights. Filore is horrified to learn Reinhard has been barred from seeing Felt for over a month, yet he insists he must obey the kingdom's orders. Before departing, Reinhard sincerely congratulates his guilt-stricken father on his new knighthood. Back at the church, Tiga reprimands Filore for her public outburst at the castle. Once they are alone, a deeply frustrated Filore asks Heinkel how to successfully break someone out of the castle.
