Ram, despite suffering from poor physical health and diminished willpower, accompanies Emilia to the Lugunica royal castle. Escorted by Royal Guard Captain Marcos, they enter the Council Chamber under a tense, hostile atmosphere, where they are met by nobles, the Council of Elders, and other Royal Selection candidates. Filore, a new candidate, emotionally clings to Emilia in her defense before being guided back to her seat. Bordeaux Zergev, a member of the Council of Elders, leads the inquiry. He confirms that Sage Miklotov McMahon has been murdered, with Crusch Karsten suspected of the deed and Subaru and Beatrice fleeing as accomplices. Bordeaux then accuses Subaru of being a Witch Cultist and the successor to the Sin Archbishop of Sloth. He presents several points of suspicion: Subaru’s highly convenient achievements against the cult, his mysterious origin, his unique resilience to Authorities, his ability to remember those erased by Gluttony, and his use of invisible forces during his flight. Crucially, Bordeaux reveals that the captured Sin Archbishop of Wrath, Sirius, testified that Sloth's spirit resides inside Subaru. Bordeaux suggests the entire Emilia camp, including Roswaal, is colluding with the cult. When Ram tries to defend Subaru, she is silenced. Facing potential ruin, Emilia refuses to break; she proudly declares herself the "Witch of the Frozen Forest" and states they will not lose, earning Ram’s silent, profound respect. Just then, Marcos receives a report that Otto, Garfiel, and Rem have escaped surveillance at the Royal Villa using a smoke screen. Consequently, Bordeaux orders Emilia and Ram detained within the castle. While being moved, they encounter Felt and a weeping Filore. Felt firmly defends Subaru's innocence. Felt notes that she and Reinhard have been summoned on separate business. Elsewhere in the castle, a civil official orders Reinhard to pursue and capture the fleeing members of the Emilia camp. To ensure his cooperation, the official invokes the name "Valga Cromwell." Reinhard reluctantly accepts the written order and departs to stop his allies.
